History of Pokémon
Pokémon, short for "Pocket Monsters," is a media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori. The franchise centers on fictional creatures called "Pokémon," which humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train to battle each other for sport. Pokémon was first released in Japan in 1996 and has since become one of the most successful video game franchises in the world.
